The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Consultant – Software Engineering to lead end-to-end enterprise implementations for clients in the Chicago market.

This hybrid role requires on-site collaboration at client locations when needed. You will serve as both a technical leader and strategic advisor, partnering with client product teams, technology leaders, and executives while coordinating closely with Altum’s engineering and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities
1. Enterprise Architecture & Engineering Leadership

  • Architect and implement scalable applications using the Microsoft stack (.NET Core, C#, ASP.NET, Web APIs, SQL Server)
  • Design and deploy cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, Azure SQL, AKS, etc.)
  • Lead modernization initiatives including microservices, API-first design, and event-driven architectures
  • Ensure solutions meet enterprise-grade security, compliance, and performance standards

2. Client Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to client product, engineering, and executive stakeholders
  • Translate business objectives into technical execution roadmaps
  • Present architecture and delivery strategy to leadership audiences
  • Align engineering decisions with strategic business outcomes

3. AI-Driven Engineering Excellence

  • Proactively leverage AI-enabled development tools to improve engineering efficiency and quality
  • Identify automation opportunities within client systems
  • Drive modern development practices that increase velocity without sacrificing rigor

4. Project Leadership & Delivery Accountability

  • Lead structured execution using agile methodologies
  • Own delivery timelines, risk mitigation, and scope management
  • Remove blockers proactively and maintain continuous progress
  • Mentor engineers and foster high-performance collaboration

5. Business & Financial Acumen

  • Apply strong understanding of accounting principles and financial operations when designing enterprise systems
  • Evaluate architectural decisions through a cost-benefit and ROI lens
  • Apply FinOps principles to cloud architecture decisions
  • Ensure technology investments align with measurable business impact

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of enterprise software engineering experience
  • Advanced expertise in the .NET ecosystem and Azure Cloud
  • Experience delivering complex implementations end-to-end
  • Strong client-facing communication and executive presence
  • Demonstrated project leadership and delivery ownership
  • Working knowledge of accounting/finance systems or enterprise financial operations
  • Experience operating in hybrid/on-site client environments

Preferred

  • Azure certifications (AZ-305, AZ-104, etc.)
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or regulated industries
  • Strong DevOps experience (CI/CD, GitHub or Azure DevOps)
  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise solutions
